FAMOUS FEMALE POETS

( to the tune of “Vogue”)

By Beverly Stock

Stowe, Crosby, and Millay

Thorpe and Wilcox had their way,

Sylvia Plath and Angelou.

E.B Browning, we love you.

Branch and Alcott have a place.

Sara Teasdale gave good face.

Rowson, Morton, Willard, Hale,

Dorothy Parker, all prevailed.

All ladies with an attitude,

Women who wrote in the mood,

Didn’t stand there; got right to it.

They all wrote verse,

There’s nothing to it,

Rhyme!

I’ve listed a few of my favorite female poets in my poem, Famous Female Poets. Readers can find a great source on these and others in the book Great Poems By American Women, published by Dover.

Beverly Stock, an American poet, delights in creating “Found” poetry that combines her words with existing poems and other texts in the public domain and brings new meaning to older familiar passages. Please visit my website.
