Fairy Tales

Location

I used to dream in fairy tales
Of pirate ships and wind in sails
I dreamt in legend, myth and song
My mind would wander all day long
I found wonder in books I'd read
I watched the stars fly overhead

My imagination used to soar
I faced the lion's mighty roar
It was through clouds I used to run
I used to jump and reach the sun

I used to dream in fairy tales
Of chasing dragons and riding whales
I used to dream of oceans deep
A whole new world found in my sleep
I used to dream of cowboy fights
It was in my dreams I mastered flight

Before my eyes were shining lights
My dreams would fly as high as kites
I marveled at the whole of space
There was no foe I wouldn’t face
I viewed the world from mountain peak
There was no thrill I wouldn’t seek

I used to dream in fairy tales
Against a beast I would prevail
In castle moats swam schools of fish
I closed my eyes and made a wish
I danced all night with kings and queens
More magic than you’d ever seen

A knight in shining armor fought
It was a princess he had sought
I dreamed of hidden lands now found
Of gentle dreams and loving sounds

But now my life’s a different tune
I hope the answer’s coming soon
Is this the way my life’s to be?
Forever tossed on endless seas?

Now I’ve come to dream of rest
From school and work and countless tests
Now I’m making future plans
My entire life held in my hands

Now I’m skilled in hiding tears
Now I dream in growing fears
Should I mourn a carefree child?
How is the world so harsh and wild?

Should I turn myself to steel?
To give the wounds a chance to heal?
One thing I’ve learned on this winding trail
Life is not a fairy tale.
