A Fairy Tale

Every story starts with

Long ago and far away,

Or Once upon a time.

These stories always remind us

Of a Happier time

That “Long Ago” line

Still makes me tremble like a leaf

Wanting to know if the handsome Prince Charming

has come to save the foolish young girl

A girl that seemed very much like me

Always shy and afraid of everything

But wanting to change anything

Who tries to defy the evil queen

That girl that loved the simplest of things

She always let herself be rescued

Instead of taking a sword and cutting herself free

And ends up with her heart in her hands

To the nearest wealthy Prince Charming.

This girl seemed to have that life

But what never occurred to me was

That she caused her own suffering

And seemed to choose the path of least resistance

She let this villain take her away

But one thing I can give her

Is she had hope and faith

That someone would save her

Someone would love her

Someone would defeat the wicked heiress

Yet the Once Upon a Time

Always felt like autumn

Like a feeling of fresh air

She never let herself be a victim

She may have had the Prince Sincere

Instead of the Charming Cheating Prince

He helped her defend her life

She fought and tired until she succeeded

The Lady toke that sword and cut her bonds

Even if it meant cutting her ties to her family

It was worth it to fight the evil ahead

And she always found the truest of true love

A broken heart in the end

A head spin of “wait what?”

Do you mean you never had faith in me?

No hope or forgiveness or grace

That long ago far way was a lie.

That story of love and happy endings was a falsity

You used me to get what you wanted.

So these bards would never sing my name

But they will sing yours,

The Prince Charming.

The charming Prince that saved the Damsel

Who could not fight because she was frightened?

The girl who gave herself to that jerk

That girl that wishes she had the “Once Upon a Time”

But she always had hope like the Once upon a time Woman.

But maybe she thought “that is how they are made.”

From victim to heroin

From pretty girl to beautiful woman

From servant to queen

She of royalty or of the Amazon trees.

The lady always was the woman I wanted to be.

So it be the “Long Ago and Far away”

Or the “Once Upon a Time”

I will make my own story.

That causes children to tremble with excitement of leaves

Or with the feeling of autumn

A breath of fresh free air

A story to spin the tale of two people

Unlikely lovers that help defend

And defeat the Evil and Darkness ahead

The story of victim and pretty girl,

To the brave, strong, beautiful Lady.

The lines of fairy tales...
