To Face the Sun (second poem)

We run faster than ever

A hope revived,

Another life besides our own to fight for,

The will to battle restored

The souls of our shoes are tattered

Beads of sweat trickle down our battered faces.

Our lungs aren’t as strong as they used to be

But they work just fine.

With spirit renewed we go,

Towards the rising sun above the hill

Maybe we can catch it,

If we run just a bit more swiftly.

Once we were broken,

Like so many others,

But we chose to fix ourselves

So we might see the sun again.

Today is the day we’ve waited for

For what seemed a thousand years

And today is where’s we’ll stay

Until the end of our days.
