Eyes Met Eyes Walking By

Eyes met eyes walking by

Time that once raced, stood still

And if it still sped, care not did I

For the eyes that I met could kill

A voice rose up inside my throat

Not a word did I speak

I felt that I had braved the moat

And stood at the tower's peak

Eyes searched eyes in a trance

Waiting to see the truth

Still were the eyes, they did not dance

A theory of absent proof

Then a flash rose from the depths

Hope was heightened again

But then as quickly as they met

The eyes did descend

All hope was dashed

The suitor dies,

As they with lowered lash

Walked on to search out other eyes

In which their gaze might last

Walking by, eyes met eyes

A memory of the past
