Extra Credit For Them, Not You

Location

I am at the cusp of the goalpost

I may even want to go beyond it, forward still

I want to learn and try more than most.

Yet the goal has a green ribbon that will

hold me back. The ribbon says that if I want more

classes then required then they’ll give me a bill.

The bill they’ll charge says I must not be poor

I must have much money and can pay needless fine,

if I want more credits than the school requires for.

What is a college for, if it goes so far to bind

Those students who want to go beyond merest

And  tax them while saying it grows the mind?
