"Estranged"

Is reunion
possible
after
an estrangement?
Certainly.
Though usually
much has changed...
And even if things
aren't exactly
amiss
remember,
it is said
one can never go
home
again...
And you wonder,
are old wounds
too deep?
Has the passage
of time
been too long?
Is the distance
too far?
Still,
we strive
for the old
warmth,
and are cordial,
smiling.
But
absence doesn't
always
make the heart
grow
fonder...
for people change
too,
( and not just in appearance,
older,
heavier)
as some are
broken
by life's heavy
blows.
And even when memories
are good
sometimes
they are all that's
left-
and those once the
closest
to us
stand before us
near-strangers,
strangers
filled
with secrets
and years lost,
so much, we are never
to know.

Talking people understand each other and eye to eye better.

This is true, but sadly, not always the case or possible.
