Empty Pockets

College is something I just don’t get,

It just doesn’t make sense

You spend money you don’t have,

Just to try to get a little rich

When I finish college, what’s in it for me?

The bills, the bill collectors, Sallie Mae telling me it ain’t free..?

I’ll  spend thousands of dollars for a nobody to teach me;

Just to listen to someone I don’t understand preach to me

It’s not like they’ll teach me anything I NEED to know,

Like what to do if I ever go BROKE

But they’ll teach me how to balance this and blah blah that,

Make this equal and subtract that

They make a big deal out of things we’ll never use

But what they don’t give us are the relevant tools

Tools that help us out when nobody else will

Tools that tell you what to do you feel like overdosing on pills…

And what happens when you don’t land a job?

You’ll probably be on the streets like a typical New York slob

I’m saying all of this, but I’ll definitely go to college anyway,.

Because how else will I get decent pay?

But isn’t that the whole point anyway?

It’s all about money, money I don’t have

That’s why I’m writing this poem, to pay for an expensive class
