Negro!
Dirty Negro, were some of the words that I heard.
The things they said to me were absurd!
Spitting, Shouting, and Screaming encompassed me.
I tried so hard not to let their threats bother me.
That walk I took, alone, that very day.
A memory that I will never let fade away.
The hatred in their hearts and eyes,
Burned holes straight through my pride.
My palms were sweaty,
My heart often skipped a beat;
At every instance, I thought this journey I could not complete.
On that day, that grave, grave day;
Guns, forks, and armed men welcomed me to my fate.
All the struggles that me and my people have faced,
In hopes that blacks and whites could peacefully reside in the same place.
