The Ecstasy I Feel

The ecstasy that I feel
As I take the phone
And dial his number
And then the dread
As the phone rings
My heart sinks low
As second thoughts
Fill my head
And softly I do wish
He wouldn't answer
Yet he answers anyway
In his gentle voice
To which I feebly
Reply "Good Evening"
And we engage
In exchanging
Pleasantries trivial
Until I decide
To hang up the phone
For lack of anything better
To say
How sad I feel.
