The Earth Spins at 465 Meters per Second
The earth spins at 465 meters per second.
This might seem like a speedy motion, but if you stop to think,
The planet itself is 40,075,000 meters wide.
Not so speedy anymore
One child is abused or neglected every 35 seconds.
This might seem like a seldom occurrence, but if you stop to think,
A child is required to be under the custody of a legal adult
For the first 18 years of his life.
Not so seldom anymore
If only I had the power to change
One aspect of this world,
There's one thing I would rearrange
To rescue boys and girls
Not only the poverished covered in dust,
Not just the laboring covered in rust,
I'd heal each one of the bruised and battered,
Each little finger, every memory shattered,
I'd give rest to the children who are tired of crying,
Tired of trying to escape constant fighting,
I'd erase every word of the wills they are writing
And fill their dark worlds with warm, yellow lighting
While the rest of the class starts first grade with a smile,
The wary start off with teachers in denial
Their classmates don't ask how they got every bruise
Because scrapes are still normal for kids learning 2 + 2
If only a slip on the slide was the case
Rather than a big brother giving a slap across his face
Or maybe a mother needing someone to chase
A father who has to portray his disgrace
By the seventh grade it's become a parade
A daily event, a mess to be made
A stress reliever at the very least
A family known as mouth of the beast
The slightest falter and Hell could break loose
Is it even a question why he'd consider a noose?
One child is abused or neglected every 465 meters that the earth spins.
This might seem like an unnecessary amount of worldwide mistreatment towards innocent boys and girls,
but if you stop to think,
It is.
Not so ignorable anymore
