Dreams are for the Brave.

We will live Our life together

and find dreams in the back of the closet,

written on old receipts and tattered napkins.

And we will chase these dreams, race them, and win;

crossing the line with a sense of victory,

but an emptiness in Our lungs.

We will chase and race and win.

And repeat.

               And the emptiness will remain.

Years will pass and we finally learn that

Our true Dreams will unfold into beautiful finger paintings

               and chocolate chip cookie messes.

Because my Dreams will learn their ABCs on Our kitchen floor

and your Dreams will catch the baseball on the front lawn.

And our Dreams will be the same.

We will rock our Dreams to sleep, holding them close to our hearts.

And they will listen to the same perfect rhythm that put me to sleep

               on the hardest nights.

We will walk with our Dreams to the ice cream shop and the youngest will pick one scoop of cotton candy and one scoop of cheery, and we will learn from this Dream that

it is unwise to dismiss something because you fear it.

Our Dreams will teach us that they will climb the tree without hesitation,

even to the flimsiest branches, because they know we will be there

to catch them if they fall.

We will go to the park and play tag with our Dreams,

Chasing,

Racing,

and at the end of the day, they will win our hearts.
