The Dream

Oh innocent baby Seals, how you love to play,

You roll around in the snow outside for hours,

Playful and loveable, so care-free.

How could anything come to harm you?

Oh Rhinos, running around in the grasslands,

Playing with your babies, drinking from watering holes,

Enjoying the fierce rays of heat from the sun above,

With your fierce horn, invincible to almost anything.

Oh Beluga Whale, diving deep into the sea,

Swimming around the ocean, enjoying your vast domain.

100 feet long, but minding your own business,

How could harm come to a creature that big?

Oh Pelican, with your beautiful long wings,

How you soar above the ocean, looking for fish.

The cool breeze and the spray of waves hitting you,

So peaceful, just using their wings to survive

Though these creatures are just the common animal,

And have little importance as we deem,

But they matter and are valuable

They too, have a dream

The winter is cold, and the wind is fierce,

So we pick up our tools to find a source of protection.

There, baby Seals and their warm coats, keeping them playful,

But we look past the innocence and succumb to our selfishness.

Wealth and success are things that everyone wants,

And we would do anything to achieve that status.

The horn of a Rhino protects them from almost everything,

But are helpless when it comes to our guns.

Oil, in some ways, rules our world.

Beluga Whales carry a big profit for the greedy.

The powerful creatures are some of the largest,

But can still be taken down with a single harpoon.

Pollution is a problem that isn’t acknowledged often,

But the effects can be devastating, especially to Pelicans.

It’s not their fault there’s no solution and no clean water,

Their once beautiful wings, now just can’t seem to fly.

So many animals are going extinct

And every life matters, from sea to sky

The ways our society can help are pretty distinct,

Don’t let the dream die.
