Dreading the Night

I am dreading the night, you see

There was a monster under my bed

A monster in the closet

Right before bed, a whisper from the cracks of my room

They whisper to me:

"You are next"

Oh, what horrors wait there?

I asked mama to not place a frame under the bed

A frame with a space of two inches off the floor

But enough for the monster under the bed

More whispers

It makes my stomach churn

Pacing the time to get to the bed

Ten seconds...five seconds

Five seconds to run to my bed

After all those lights go off...

Gulping, struggling for air

My sweaty fingers lightly shut the light switch

Boom! Lights out

Running, heart pounds, leap into bed

Cold, grasping hand, around ankles

AAAAHHH!!!

Gone. Still dreading the night.
