Down

Come, down
Down into the dust
Where slanderers are kings
And lies are just as trustworthy
As the truth
And both are sought out
They huddle in the dust
Of your leadership
The ashes of your ideas
These are the people you try to rule
What will you
Promise them next?
You could guarantee
Almost anything
But promise everything
And still not be heard
Do you think they listen to you?
Hang onto your every word?
You have been fooled
By those you cheated
Tell me, How does
Drinking your own
Failure suit you?
And yet not even your failure
Touches the crumbling ash-dirt
It does not water the grim,
Tiny, tasteless hopes
That try to grow and are
Eaten by the touch of sunlight
They sit in the dust
That will never bear fruit
Do you understand them?
Do you understand us?
We, who laugh at your poor efforts
But who stand behind you
And would give our lives
For what you were chosen to stand for
We, who willingly criticize
But turn on the outsiders
That say the same?
Do you notice the support?
Or do you hear only mocking?
Dare not trust our mouths
But our actions
We are in the dust
But we trust the rain to come
Will you trust us?
