Double Standards

Mon, 09/29/2014 - 21:49 -- Grey

How can I live in a world full of hate,

When all I desire is to be loved?

How can I live in a world that is blind,

When all I want is to see?

How can I feel the excitement,

When my body is so numb?

How can I hear the cheers,

When cries pierce my ears?

I  love nothing.

I see nothing.

I feel nothing.

I hear nothing.

How am I expected to live my life,

How am I expected to thrive?

"Be happy and prosper,

Love yourself and only you.

How can you hate someone,

How can you hate what your mother made?"

They echo meaningless words,

They contradict themselves in their actions.

They're "pro-love" and "pro-life",

Yet they sponsor hate and death.

How can I trust a world,

When we're all held to double standards?

I don't want to live in a world,

When I can't even breathe freely.
