Double Edge Love

Double Edge Love

Love…

Love that moves the body

The spirit

And the soul

This love that is sweeter than the nectar that feeds our souls

Is the love that is deserved

This love isn’t to be abused

To be rationed

To be doled out to those who wait for it the longest

But to be given to those that deserve it

This love that is so euphoric

It could only be a miracle

It is not meant to be used to exploit

To deceive

To trick the innocent souls into false realities

This love that is so rare

Doesn’t come in wrapped gifts

Whenever you feel you are losing the attention

Or the gratification of feeling

Relevant

To such innocent souls that don’t yet understand the abuse

The neglect

The unwillingness to connect

The deceit

The truth that you don’t give a shit about them

The truth that it’s not their fault

For what they don’t know is how shitty you are

The harsh reality is…

You not knowing anything about who they truly are

Their interest

Their passions

Their relationships

Because you only care

When its relevant to you

When you need to know

So that when you go to court,

You don’t look like an insensitive ass

So, you show that judge,

“Hey, I got my shit together”

“Why don’t you let me go this time with another warning”

“Remember, I got fired from my job again”

“I don’t know why, I blame racism”

You should feel fucking blessed to be talked to

You should feel an immense sense of pride

Not for riding on the coattails of greatness

That came from a small part of you

But from being a part of that genius’s life

For being a part of the hardship

For being a part of the good times

Not trying to take from them the joy

The joy that is felt without your presence

When you aren’t even a side thought

When your existence is not thought about

For that could be when they are truly happy

When they forget the pain and trauma that they have experienced

Don’t ruin, taint, or spoil

That Joy by saying “Because I love you”

Don’t try to justify years of deceit/neglect/emotional abuse by saying

“Because I love you”

That phrase isn’t something to be merely uttered

It something that must be lived

“Because I Love You” is only something you say

When you put in the consistent effort

To better the life of someone else

That you willingly sacrificed so much so that they could have

So many opportunities

Opportunities that you struggled to create yourself because no one did

When you can recognize that they aren’t in a healthy space

And you work with and encourage them to seek help

Get better because you care and love them

Not so you can use them at some other time

After all of that and more is done,

And only after

Can you tell me

“Because I love you”
