Doors

I’m in the hallway of a thousand doors

Each door has a different obstacle behind it

Some knobs disappear if I take long to open them

Some doors in the hallway have cement covering the doorways

Other door are already cracked open to enter

I’m still in the hallway of a thousand doors

One door designated to high school graduation

Another door for the dedication

Of my college dream of aerospace engineering

Now I see Rolls Royce jobs appearing

Wealth and my own family nearing

I’m still in the hallway of a thousand doors

Scared to open the doors were behind, I hear gunshots killing my generation

I run as fast as I can from that door and trip into the failure door

Everything in this door is wrong

Dropout, children, drugs, EBT

Is the door they want me to take

Yet, I’m still in the hallway of a thousand doors

Each room has obstacles that are life changing

But life will not change

If I’m still in the hallway of a thousand doors
