It all started over half a century ago
A people, oppressed, shut down, told no
But they stood tall, stood fast
and argued civil rights for all
be he, she, black, white
though some were appalled
but that time passed, that problem solved
History now repeats itself
Are there really rights for all?
We’ve brought women into the work place
And integrated the schools
But the gays still can’t marry
And we have all been fooled
If we truly learned from history, there would be no question
Civil rights for all, is what’s gained from this lesson.
