Does Love Have A Color Code?

I don't understand why we can't be together
Just 'cause your skin is darker than mine
I love you more than anything
More than my own life
When they scowl at us in public
When they threaten us at school
It doesn't matter to me
Just as long as I have you
They told me they'd pull a knife on you
They sent a brick through your window last night
I'm scared to death, but when I look in your eyes
My worries go away, and everything's alright
You say you want to leave me
So I can have a normal life
But what's life worth living
If you can't be by my side?
Don't listen to what they say
Stay strong and keep your stance
We can win this fight
If we just ignore their ignorance
Even though they've turned our life into Hell
You made my life brighter
My flame of hope went out
And you were there to be my lighter
They call our relationship wrong, discussing
Is there something I don't know?
Are there rules to who you can love?
Does love have a color code?
You know how much I love you
I know you love me too
So why would you leave me because of them?
Don't you know how much I need you?

I wrote this a few years ago because someone I knew kept telling me how wrong he thought interracial relationships were. I didn't agree with him at all.
