A Different Tone

Too often, we are judged by the color of skin,
and sadly, we are not judged by what we hold within.
Our abilities are determined by whether or not we are a man or a woman,
and for this world, this has been one bad omen.
Rosa Parks cried for freedom,
and her movement proved that she was full of wisdom.
Well, let's not forget that Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. had a dream for us,
and what a dream it was, it caused a worldwide fuss.
What about Susan B. Anthony, who cried for the right to vote?
Or Elizabeth Cady Stanton, who jumped on the same boat?
Our color, our gender, it’s all such a simple difference,
but our history books show us that it’s one that caused resistance.
The Civil Rights Movement gave our lives reason,
but without it, we would live in a world suffocated by treason.
A world whose heart loved to hate,
and sadly, a world who would have never known a free state.
