Narcissus whispers to himself. 

Take another selfie.

A new post on instagram. 

Watch the number of likes change. 

Hope and pray for more followers.

 

Because, as everyone knows,

Self validation only comes from 

The validation of others. 

A person's worth is determined by 

The number count on an app

And a number on a report card. 

 

Lost another follower,

Another cut on a hidden arm. 

Thinning stomachs stare back 

From mirror reflections. 

Skip just one more meal,

Dysmorphia attacks everyone. 

 

Self love is a concept 

Associated with lush bath bombs. 

Light a candle and cure depression. 

People only have a big ego 

When putting others down. 

Self hatred stains everything else. 

 

 

So the narcissus flower 

Never came to be.

Because a mirror today 

Only causes suicides

Due to low self esteems. 

 

A popular instagram post 

Is way more important than

Anyone’s life or even feelings. 

Self harm is a popularity contest.

And suicide makes you a god.
