Differences

Green pours from her eyes
Gold from her hair.
Smiles shoot from her mouth
Bounces from her steps.

Alone every day she walks down the street
Sifting through the thoughts on repeat.
Alone every day she shoves them to the back
Making room for happiness that she lacks.

Every passerby gets a smile and hello
While she gets only white noise.
Every day she meets the public status quo
While with her mind she toys.

With friends she lets them hear laughs
Ignoring the thoughts shoved back in her brain.
With friends she smiles for photographs
Resisting the tears like rain.

At night she closes her mind to the day
And tries to close her eyes.
At night the colors swirl despite what she might say
And she cannot tell them their goodbyes.

Sadness pours from her soul
Aching from her heart.
Secrecy seeps from her brain
Shutting her eyelids, ripping her apart.
