The Difference

The way people see you

makes all the difference

is what society says

but society doesn’t understand anatomy

Appearances can be out of our control

We can be too small, too tall

The wrong color hair

Black, white

No.

Our voice is what makes the difference.

If I could change the world

I would want people to know

It is not the way people see you

But the way they hear you.

It is what we say.

In the womb,

the first experience

is our mother’s voice.

We are born into the blinding light

with nothing but the voices of humans to comfort us.

When we die

the last to go is our hearing,

the last of this world

will be its noise.

An image doesn’t echo

But a voce does

A picture may burn

But words last forever.

It is not the sight that saves us

from the darkness of insanity

but the words of those whose hearts will break without us.

What we say comes from the heart,

that is ours to control,

and that is what makes the difference.
