Die to self

Proverbs 16:18 New English Translation (NET Bible)

18 Pride goes before destruction,
and a haughty spirit before a fall.

“Die to self”: my battle cry as the trumpet I seem to swallow

I know the reason why? As my inner-man seems too hollow

“Conviction by self-invented” cannot last for a day or two

As death to self is circumvented ignoring what it takes to do

Founded on self-satisfaction my house of cards waves in the wind

My lust and greed the distraction of things I thought should have been

Victory is nowhere to be found and self-made trophies on the shelf

Preparing me for another round of thinking of myself to be so swell

“Love me, not a problem” although others don’t fall for it

In my solemn environment “the parade of emptiness” is what fits
