Demise of a Rose
Pin straight hair cascading around my face
Hyperpigmentation that I truly
cannot erase.
Glistening almond eyes
so childlike and dreary
gawks at the hateful world
making my confidence weary.
God hath given me one face
and I make myself another
but all my flaws are flawless
and I am unlike any other.
Confidence in truest form
like happiness when a baby’s born
like the luminescent stars up above
I myself can only love
the flaws that I’ve been born with.
I may be a weed
not a dandelion, or a rose
but I’ve come to love myself
from my feet to my button nose.
With lipstick blood red
and powder white as snow
I enhance my beauty, confidence
and all this I want to show.
Stand tall and bold as a queen
it’s not cocky, nor mean
because when you’re a weed in a garden
competing to be the best
confidence helps you win
there is no contest.
