Deleterious Gold

Deleterious Gold

Quizzically we must look at gold

Deleterious as it can be

Heed Bacchus's wisdom of old

He knew Midas would not be free

The wealth did not save him

From his folly or his greed

in Pactolus he must swim

for salvation from his deed

Even so he was foolish

And challenged the choice of a god

His barber did not heed his wish

And told the secret to the sod

Therefore be wary of riches

Coin and wealth do not heal

while splendid they often come from witches,

And your soul might just be in the deal.
