"Deep Trouble"

Flooding in,

My deep and dark worries

Win this battle

And get the best of me.

Fractured rays

Are my only savior,

But all they can do

Is show me what I once had,

What's now out of my grasp,

Though I could never hold it,

Except in my heart -

But it, too, is broken,

It's flakes drifting away

In the highlights of my life.

Surely, my brain remembers

And is capable of carrying them forever?

No, for it, too, is limited,

Shining only on surfaces

Of entire beasts

Baring teeth behind which only a chasm resides.

My soul!  It is intangible;

Perhaps it can resume my progress

In the next life...

But who knows?

Life is not a given,

Whether taken or not -

Taken away by sweeping currents,

Or not taken seriously enough.
