I’m up at 4, computer glare on my face
She’s up at 4, laundry in piles at her feet
I come home at 2, I nap till satisfied
She comes home at 9, knives, spoons, forks a blur until 11
When the sink starts running and the suds start piling
I retire to my room after dinner at 12, after my meager chores
She progresses to the office, to work out her numbers for the day
Progresses to my room to wish me good night
Progresses to her room, where she washes the day away
Rests her head on a pillow, only to wake up 4 hours later
In piles of laundry
With expectations of work
With thoughts of what to prepare for dinner
With lists of things to do that day
All the while I stare at my computer, nap, eat, and perform my meager chores
