Death and the Bird

Location

It came from whence the demons dwell

On wings of satin ebony,

What it was no one could tell,

But how it moved so gracefully.

With one roar your future told,

One shadow told your fate.

You cannot destroy its eternal cold,

You can only make it late.

Try as you might to stop its flight,

Fight as you may to wound or kill,

It travels through the darkest night

It shivers with the thrill.

It flew from whence the devils yell,

The chaos of its home unveiled,

In this icy frozen barren Hell,

From which this demon hailed.

With a raise of his iron saber,

And a testament of his great skill,

He razes from this world a neighbor,

Until he has had his fill.

The foul beast turns and with an evil grin,

says ‘I will come for you one day,

when you are old and thin.’

He smiles and turns away.

Over his shoulder a call is heard,

All across the land,

‘Try to hide, my little bird,

But I’ll catch you if I can.’

Death has made his call for you,

He’s closer every day,

So you lead your life anew,

But you know that Death will stay.
