Dearest Adriana

Dearest Adriana,

I can remember when the sun had shone,

So brightly through my car window,

As I drove hours and hours to finally behold

Your beauty and your heart, exposed.

You hugged me so tight and I could have choked,

But I hugged back tighter without

Separated no longer by a sea or by lines,

Our friendship could blossom and flourish and chime.

No screen to partition, no roads to drive,

Only you and I, face to face and alive.

But then the snow blanketed the ground,

Like a crisp white spool of thread unwound,

Divided once more by hell and its hounds,

I lost you amid life and sound.

I shadowed away, losing sense of me.

You prospered and strayed, loving so free.

New friends, new life, new love, new self.

You had no time for us, my struggles, my life, my self.

Time could erase and abandon us on a shelf.

Things I had been through,

with you,

are happening to me.

Loss, graduation, anxiety, and a degree.

But, you are not here as I was there, you’d agree.

I miss you with all the things I wish you could see.

Two years without a birthday wish from you,

While I remember every moment we shared and knew.

Come back to me.

I miss you.

I can remember when the sun had shone,

So brightly through my car window,

As I drove hours and hours to finally behold

Your beauty and your heart, exposed.

Sincerely,

C.b.
