Dear Parents

Location

I’m going to take small steps

There is no need for leaps and bounds

Small steps

Leading me to what is to be found

The world seems to be spinning

In a rush, in a hurry

Everyone wants to be winning

But that is what I want to bury

Don’t tie me down to expectations

To that outline of success

There is just a cloud of premonitions

Because I have nothing of myself to express

So I’m going to take small steps

To discover what is me

Small steps

Bringing me to that definition of free

I know the worth of being above

Keeping head up from drowning

Yet what is the difference when hands shove

Me too high from breathing

Don’t shoot me to go fast

Because I’m still pacing

And if I end up being last

I don’t mind that disdain I’ll be facing

Because I’m going to take small steps

This is my own resolution

Small steps

No, I won’t feel any consternation

And you shouldn’t either

Since I’m still young and learning

The opportunities ahead of me won’t wither

If I decide to write my own song to be singing

I’m not sorry

Not at all

Don’t worry

If I fall

I’m going to dance

I’m going to cheer

I’m going to take chance

I’m going to have nothing to fear

Because I’ll take on the world at my own pace

And see what I’m meant to be

And the toils and strains are what I embrace

If it means discovering me for me

I’m taking small steps

There is nothing hold me back now

Small steps

Going as far beyond what limitations would allow

There is nothing restraining me

So now I can finally get a taste of that dream

I’m taking small steps

Small steps

There is no need for leaps and bounds

Small steps

Leading me to what is to be found
