Dear my Someday Daughter: For when you're on your way back to his house

by now,

you know how to see through his lies,

yet you'll still find yourself hoping,

begging some supernatural force that he's changed

holding onto that thin, yet steel strong string of "what ifs"

hoping that this time,

maybe, just maybe,

he'll mean what he says.

you think you've done it all right.

you think he's wrapped around your finger.

you think you're the one now in control,

but darling,

the player knows this game and creates the ever-changing rules

and you will never be able to keep track of them.

he knows what you're doing

and he if he doesn't

i don't know how,

i really don't baby girl,

but he some how will always find a way so that you feel like it's your fault

and will always find a way to make you chase him

i really don't know how he does this,

but i guarantee you when he tells you he's changed,

as the lies pour out his mouth,

when you hear everything that you are ready to protect yourself from,

and prepare yourself for your speech of everything you practiced to say to him when his mouth is finally shut,

you'll go blank as soon as you begin to speak.

you'll see a whole flash of memories right in front of you as you look at him:

you'll see every smile that has ever emerged on his face when he was with you,

you'll hear every breath he's ever breathed when he was with you,

you'll feel every touch that his fingertips have ever left on you,

you'll smell that sweet mixture of his cologne and house smell that you've gotten so used to,

you'll taste every meal he's ever bought you and every kiss you've ever shared,

and your mouth will trap the words that want to escape and all that you'll be able to do is smile

because you don't want to lose the memories because those are what you know.

because that what if is still hanging there.

you'll forget all the reasons you were mad at him in the first place and even when you try to tell him what's wrong he won't care

he is the master of emotions

and putting on a show

but princess,

this boy is telling all these other girls the same thing,

not because they're any better than you,

but because he is just a boy and doesn't know what he wants.

so when you find yourself answering his calls

and contemplating on what to respond,

hang up

erase his messages

unfollow him

forget him

there are so many other things to be doing with your time and once you find those things,

hold onto them and you'll soon realize how much more fulfilled you are.
