Dear Mr. President

Dear Mr. President:

I learned US History during the 2016 election.
I learned US History in a small, white, rural school.
I learned US History while your nation normalized bad things.

White supremacy
Mocking disabled people
Locker-room talk
Stealing women’s rights and consent
Nationalism that is reminiscent of Nazi Germany
Microaggressions
Building walls instead of building relations
Destroying our land and climate
Putting your country up for sale to the Russians
Reversing the first brick thrown during the Stonewall Riots
Completely screwing up foreign affairs
Promoting hatred of different people

Millions of Americans said the “last straw” was when your country supported poaching and killing animals overseas.
Instead, the “last straw” should have been the
Racism
Sexism
Ableism
Homophobia
Transphobia
Nationalism
Imperialism
Hatred and intolerance of different people

Instead, we laugh at Alec Baldwin on SNL and count down the days until November 3, 2020.

I learned US History during the 2016 election.
I learned US History in a small, white, red, rural school.
I learned US History while your nation normalized bad things.

I learned US History as it repeated itself.

This poem is about:
My country

I hear you... And agree 100 percent. Your message and wording is powerful, but perhaps you could add such poetic devices as alliteration/assonance, metaphor, and rhythm/ rhyme... Instead of lists focus on two or three things and expand on it with a detailed story.
