Dear Mother Earth

When waves of depression come over me,

It’s hard not to drown.

Submerged in my own abysmal purgatory,

I can’t help but frown.

The water she provides pulls me close like a riptide,

It quenches my thirst and purifies my insides.

When gusts of guidance blow me in the right direction,

My naiveness turns me astray.

Attempting to write a different story,

When the plot was clear as day.

The air she provides fills my lungs like a balloon,

Every breath taken now becomes her favorite tune.

When the diamonds below the ground mock my poverty,

My possessions start to feel like an anomaly.

Shining in all their glory,

The words they call me are derogatory.

The treasures she provides catch my eye,

Yet she reminds me I’m precious in her eyes.

Her water polluted by oil

Her air tainted by smoke

Her soil stripped of it's beauty

Yet, she still provides me with everything.

Why is that?

It’s because she loves me.

Mother Earth, I make one promise to you.

To fight for you with all my heart.

You are everything I did not know I needed.

Magically, you heal my wounds when my heart is bleeding.

When my body is freezing.

When my mind is grieving.

When my eyes are weeping.

When people question my freedom.

You don’t judge me and I won't do the same.

My blackness isn’t an issue and I love that about you.

Please don’t ever change.

When your eyes close and the moon fills the night sky.

You still trust me after many people have did you wrong.

Everyday I ask myself, how are you so strong?

Our dependency is a harmonious unity.

Instead of Man vs. Nature,

The adoration appears translucently.

Mother Dearest,

Thank you for your serenity.

My promise is with you from now till eternity.
