Dear God, Up Above

Location

Dear God, up above,

Please hear my prayer.

Give me a friend to love;

With a big bushy tail

And wispy whiskers

That nudges my hands

And slaps my face.

Grant her fuzzy paws

And tiny claws

To catch her when she falls.

Give me a friend

Who I can cradle in my arms

And feels softer than a pillow.

I wish for a friend

Who will stay by my side

During the harshest storm

And the coldest day.

Dear God, up above,

Thank you for my friend

That you have given me

With a heart full of love.

Thank you for her

With green diamond eyes

And white silky fur.

My guardian angel;

Love that never ends

No longer is my home empty

Nor am I lonely.

She is always waiting

To purr the sad thoughts away.

Her presence on winter nights

Chases the cold away

As a great lion against a mouse;

There is no sorrow in this house.

Dear God, up above,

Why, God, why?

My friend is gone!

Stolen from me in the night!

A dark shadow of betrayal

Took her beyond my sight.

Not a trace to track her

Not a hint that stirs

Gone in a blink

With no time to think.

A knife torn through my heart.

Yet though all my sorrow

I still think of the morrow

As my wounds slowly heal

During this ordeal.

Dear God, strength grant me

Throughout this painful eulogy.
