Twenty-five years ago
Deaf people found their voice
They said the hearing president must go
Deaf had made their choice
By thousands they occupied the school
And many blocked the gates
Breaking the rules
They had a lot at stake
They marched on Washington
And made their own demands
And though it wasn’t fun
The Deaf took a stand
They showed they wouldn’t give up
And they got support worldwide
Nothing would make them shut-up
They wouldn’t run for cover or hide
Eventually they got their way
Their demands were met
Deaf people got their say
And new rules were set
These actions changed the world
A new day for Deaf unfurled
Although they made a mess,
They showed they are equals
No more, no less
