That day at Golgotha

“Come let us go to the mountain”

The crowd followed there

As the devil was pleased to listen

And answer every prayer

His children all so eager

and none at a lost

To place this beaten man

Upon a damning cross

Bitten by the snake

These people looked on Him

But they could not see Him bronze

Their eyes veiled by sin

Some scattered few remained

Wounded sheep at best

And their fears horrifically grew

With no time to protest

Out of the betrayer’s hands

Into death the fire

Purging ever single sin

From the drunkard to the liar

He called out to His Father

As the Shepherd hung

What hope are there for sheep

If this man has empty lungs

That day at Golgotha

That day sin fell

Oh that we would perish

Every thought of hell

For we the sheep lost it there

The taste and the pain

When the unblemished one Himself

Bore every stain

And in suspense some days later

rocks veiled the Creator

But the Corner Stone cannot be shut out

For He is something greater

Sticks and stones can’t hide His bones

The Word who is flesh

Death was a campaign For Christ

And He rose quite refreshed

Now we are called as healed sheep

To follow in His steps

Reenacting every day

The God-man who lost His breath

In martyrdom and righteousness

Looking to the gospel sweet

Forgiveness, peace, joy, and love

Promote our ready feet

Today is my day at Golgotha

And dear Christian it is yours

For everday we must die to self

Making His way preffered

Tomorrow is your day at Golgotha

And it is mine the same

For God would have me die again

and lose my worldly aim

But we will rise anew each time

choosing; not just dying

To worship in all obedience

Coming to the mountain climbing.

And we will wait in hope

in joy, and in wonder

Until one day when death will die at last

Never will we asunder

Joined with God there

That eternal day of peace

Golgotha will be no more

We will begin the feast.
