Darkness

A dark pathway will lead
To the light I’ve been told…

They have said it will lend itself
To a flickering heart. But

I’ve been in that hallway;
I’ve lived in the dark.
But never have I
Seen such a light.

I crawl in the black-
The blackness of night
Hoping too much
For an invisible light.

A light which will save me
From the darkness within.
The malignancy spreading
And the whisper of “soul.”
I have not a spirit, nor a person within.
I am not controlled by a god
Nor a heavenly body
I simply live-

In a dark, stormy world
Devoid of a shining light.
And yet I still wait
For brightness to come.

A temporary answer
To impatient death.
