Darkness

It may be lively for some
But the dark has always held my deepest fears

Once the sun goes down
Darkness comes out to play

I don't mean in the streets
Just through the maze of my mind

Playing tag with my secrets
Darkness ebbs and flows

Pointing out all my flaws
All I can do to escape is sleep

But sleep doesn't come easy
With darkness lingering in my brain

This poem has really great imagery, especially in the lines "Darkness comes out to play / I don't mean in the streets / Just through the maze of my mind." I like how you write about the juxtapositions of darkness- how it can bring out new ideas and at the same time it can hide others. Have you ever thought about writing a sequel to this poem, describing more juxtapositions and combining the two into a ballad poem? Find out how and more in the Resources section.
