Dark Pit

Slippery ground

And a curious mind

Led me down a black hole

Where darkness crept inside my soul.

Fallen deep into the pit.

No way out did I find.

Just sick advances,

Where hope enchanted

And the mind lost all senses.

Down in the black hole,

Where sadness had no end,

Plagues of the past relived over and over again

In my head.

Leaving my spirit dead.

Then suddenly a hand lowered in--

As if life gave second chances.

Without any hesitation I grabbed onto hope.

I took a chance I'd find where I had left my heart.

The sunlight shown upon my face for the first time

In almost a decade.

The warmth on my cheek

Left my knees weak

And my heart's grief seeped

Through the tear-ducks

Onto my cheeks.

A new day--a new chance to see the world

Through a light I'd never knew of.

The broken

Shattered pieces of my "once-was"

I left them in the pit.

This new way of living left no room for baggage.

No need to remind myself of the past.

Shake off the dust

And find the ground.

Walk in the light of this new world

Where darkness has no advantage

And hope is no

Longer something lost,

But found

And lived out;

Free from all bondage.

The sunlight leaves you breathless.
