Long pale faces split with wicked grins,

Dark sunken spaces where the eyes should have been.

Strong careless hands stealing life from beneath tattered cotton,

Cold hardened people taking what they think they should have gotten.

*

Dark growing circles beneath ever hollow eyes,

Painful diamond tears while a shattered soul cries.

Long dark sweaters to make the guilty whispers halt,

Short pale skirt, they told her ‘this is all your fault’.

*

Soft black blanket of smothering depression,

Harsh clipped words furthering emotional repression.

Cloudy blind eyes turned from their own wicked sin,

Dark sunken spaces where the eyes should have been.
