Covenant: An issue of the heart ...

Job 31:1-2 New English Translation (NET Bible)

31 “I made a covenant with my eyes;

how then could I entertain thoughts against a virgin?
2 What then would be one’s lot from God above,
one’s heritage from the Almighty on high?

“I made a covenant with my eyes”... to look on what is in my sight.

It simply means that what I see ... is in the “power” of my rights.

I can decide to look at what ... or just to pass it by.

Oh my! Doesn’t that work ... and that without an inner-fight?

There is a craving deep in me ... that wants to look at wrong.

It enjoys it seems immensely ... when I show not to be strong.

A flabbergasting fool I am ... when I just close my eyes

to remove visions from inside ... to be corrupted in my flight.

A covenant with the eyes just means ... that the strength in the first.

Not in the eyes or brains ... which in unrighteousness just thirst.

A covenant I hunger for ... can’t be kept by me alone,

but with the help from the Lord it's as light as snow at home.
