Francis pulled the putty skin off of his chest

because he wanted reassurance that he in fact had

a heart

he looked he blanched he molded his skin back into place

reminded he was naught but capillaries

 

Calvin pulled himself up by the bootstraps and up and up and gone

 

Lottie peeled back the paper

floorboards getting splinters under her fingernails

fit like a perfect double-u into the cavity

 

Maxwell lost footing on the tightrope cracks of the sidewalk

tumbled into a fearful freefall

and

felt

regal

 

Judith plucked a handful of her wriggling thoughts

and put them into a language

she could speak to her toes

 

I built a world

from the legos in my mind

a population

from the playmobil men 

found the weather much nicer there

and have since remained
