The Color Red

Rosy cheeks of maidens fair

Leaves swaying in the breeze

Scarlet ruby slippers

The red lips of a tease

A dying gasp of sunset

The thorny rose’s crown

Blood spilt on the tablecloth

A taffeta ball gown

Cherries in the orchard

Robin’s downy breast

Taillights on the highway

Corrections on a test

The crispness of an apple

Anger in your eyes

A single poppy blossom

The depths of wartime skies

Passion of the deepest sort

Vibrant Christmas wreaths

Octagonal director

And flesh that lies beneath
