Citizen

Listen to the world
As the forests sing out in pain
As the tide calls out your greed
Sacred land we stand on
Forgotten in our action
The universe can only cry now

Open your eyes
To the plastic on the beach
To the poisons in our air and streams
Won't you open your eyes to the damage we have caused

Feel that
The blood of your mother
The wind on your back
The air in your lungs
Breathe in
Hold
Release

Stand with your toes in the dirt
And reach for the Stars
Let Father Time whisper his warning in your ear
Lay your body in the meadows
On the heart of our mother
As you drift into dreams
Allow the forgotten souls to guide your conscious
May you wake up not an individual but a citizen of our home
A citizen of this blue planet

This poem is about:
My community
Our world
