I catch its glare across the room,
I hear its choking laugh,
It’s out to get me; I can tell—
Keep it far away from me!
I can’t allow this horrid thing
to stay and haunt me so,
It’s cold and mean and stiff and metal,
Tick! Tock! Tick! Tock!
Make it stop! Make it stop!
It chills my heart with every beat.
That ugly face, those horrid hands—
Stay away! Stay away!
Take a hammer, hit it hard,
Knock its timber face askew!
Smash the frame and burn the wood,
Pull the springs out one by one.
Now take the heap of broken parts
and sweep them out the door.
There are other ways to tell the time,
much better ways than nasty clocks.
