Choix de vivre

For most, life is too short and for some, it is too long.

Stuck in violent cycles of fast forward and pause,

You stumble on. Mind acting as a personal torturer,

it knows more about you than you yourself know.

Giving moments of ecstasy to take them away, warp them,

Turn them into fantasy. Show you what you could have

to flaunt it -- taunt you with it.

“One step forwards, two steps back” –

Try ten, twenty, thirty leaps in reverse.

Getting further away from contentment at every turn.

Just enough of a glance to make you discern that

your opponent is not equal; it’s not a fair match.

They’re reckless and deviant and able to nullify your consciousness,

dissipating each futile strategy you find to help you through.

No longer worth living, life’s not what you’ll choose.
