The Children of the World

Location

A child has the purest of souls

At least that’s what I’ve always been told

Children have a naive personality

One that doesn’t understand reality

But they don’t know the children of the world

Even though a child may seem weak

I guarantee they hold a strength that can’t be beat

Because each child- boy or girl- has their own story to tell

One so full of pain and sorrow that sounds worse than hell

But still they don’t know the children of the world

They walk the streets with the lost and broken

But they walk with blinded eyes that never open

The children act as if everything is fine

Yet there are hidden scars on both body and mind

Even still they don’t know the children of the world

They don’t know how hard the children fight

With each breath they use to cry out at night

Begging, pleading for someone to hear

And save them before they disappear

Still they don’t know the children of the world

The sound of sirens fills the still air

Finally someone noticed a child’s despair

The story spreads like a wildfire across the earth

Awakening eyes to the horror behind a child’s forced mirth

Finally they know the truth about the children of the world
