The Children

My whole life I've been surrounded

by darkness, a cloud of misery

walking through each day

wondering if anyone would notice me

I struggled through each day

going through the motions

until I met these children

when they poured their happiness onto me

I waited for so long

for happiness to find me

until I finally learned

that happiness lives inside me
